ACE POWER ELECTRONICS ENSURES THE BEST QUALITY OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN THE CRETA PALACE HOTEL

ACE Power Electronics successfully installed an Active Harmonic Suppression Filter 150A of the Merus Power company, in the CRETA PALACE hotel unit, specifically in the area of Rethymno Crete.

The luxury resort is an all-inclusive option and has state-of-the-art equipment in all areas such as restaurants, bars, meeting rooms, gym, spa and other mechanical facilities for the operation of the hotel unit. Most of these systems use modern electronic power circuits which on the one hand provide high efficiencies, but on the other hand create high harmonic distortion in the current & voltage waveforms and bring negative effects to the electronic equipment. In order to prevent possible unexpected power failures and to ensure optimal power quality, it is necessary to improve the power quality of the installation.

ACE Power Electronics in collaboration with the Technical Directorate of CRETA PALACE gathered the necessary information for the operation of the installation. Afterwards, measurements were carried out with a specialized power quality analyzer, with the aim of recording any problems in the electrical network. Upon completion of the measurements, an harmonic rate of 15% was found, while a malfunction was observed in the compensation field due to aging of the equipment. The solution proposed by ACE Power Electronics after studying the disturbances in the installation, is a 150A Active Harmonic Suppression Filter system of the A2 series from the Finnish company Merus Power, combined with a non-tunable capacitor bank of 450 KVAr. Selecting the Active Harmonic Filter gave the best results to the installation, leaving a positive energy signature. With the implementation of the project were achieved: reduction & elimination of harmonic distortions from 15% to 4% as well as correction of the power factor through filter control with the HPQ function.

The HPQ application uses the capacitor steps to fully fulfill the capacitive demand of the reactive power, while the A2 module takes care of the intermediate steps and inductive power. This achieves unity power factor across all changes in the load’s power demand while at the same time, the A2 module filters out network harmonics and imbalances.

The installation was completed leaving the best impressions at the CRETA PALACE hotel by optimizing its performance, reducing the harmonic content of the hotel, offering savings in operating costs and ensuring a longer life for its equipment.
