UPS

What is a UPS?

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is a device that provides electricity in case of power failures in devices or installations where power failure could cause data loss, damage systems or cause other problems.
A UPS is protecting the connected devices or machines of the following problems:
1. Power Failure: could damage the equipment. By using a UPS system the device or the facility continues the operation with no pausing.
2. Overvoltage:. Also, may cause failures and damage to electronic equipment or even in the whole installation.
3. Under voltage: May cause data loss in computers and light flicker, also low voltage can lead to malfunctions or overheating of some devices causing damage.
4. Peak: High voltage may cause damage to electronic equipment or lamps
Using a UPS System your equipment is protected when power fails and it provides protection from power surges.

Some applications of UPS systems are in computers, data centers, telecommunication sector, banks, hospitals, factories also in the army, in shipping, in stadiums and wherever there is a need for uninterrupted power supply.

According the requirements of each device or installations the UPS has to be selected in terms of power and characteristics. The selection of a UPS is considered upon several factors, including:

1. The kind of application (for example domestic use, industrial use, Infrastructure Data Centers etc.).
2. The number, type and criticality of the loads of the installation.
3. The autonomy of the system is required in case of power failure.
4. The desired system performance and the wider technical features required.
